What started as an idea more than a year ago has crossed the finish line in a powerful way! Through hands-on learning fueled by innovation and collaboration, students teamed up with the Meridian Footwear Company to bring a real-world design to life. Top teams from all four LCSD high schools went head-to-head in a shoe design competition last December, showcasing creativity, problem-solving, and industry-ready skills. The journey culminated with Meridian Footwear producing a prototype of the winning design, which was unveiled during a community-filled ceremony. Connecting what happens in the classroom to decisions in the boardroom is the purpose of the LCSD School Board's annual tour of campuses. What happens when Santa’s helpers trade the North Pole for the classroom? A sleigh-full of stories and a love for reading! The LCSD Curriculum Department visited all eight pre-K classes to share a good book, promote literacy, and sprinkle in some holiday magic. Our students are helping spread holiday magic one card at a time. Students from across our school zones put their creativity to work, designing artwork for the district’s Christmas card and publications, and the results were nothing short of merry and bright! Students at Southeast Middle School learned about the origins of the Jolly Ol’ Elf, Santa Claus. In fact, they explored a unique holiday tradition that originated halfway around the world and completed a festive craft that made the lesson unforgettable! The school board wrapped up its annual tour of campuses with a visit to West Lauderdale Elementary. So far, it’s been a banner year for the school, which has earned recognition as a Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School of Excellence and that's not all.
